imaginehydreigons asked: Hey! :D I've been following you for a while now and noticed you sometimes use gouache in your work. it looks amazing in your illustrations! In fact, being inspired by you and this book of sketchbook artists (who also use gouache) inspired me to pick up a beginner's kit at my local art shop. Have you got any tips for a gouache beginner? Tips I found online were a bit too wishy-washy, I like your bold style more :P Do you mix your own colours or do they come in the vibrant colours you use already?
Hello! I do a combination of both- mixing my own colors and using the ones they already have! When I mix the colors I’m not super picky about whether I’m mixing the acrylic gouache with other acrylic gouache colors or straight acrylic paint since it doesn’t really matter. As for how I paint with them- I usually apply the paint with a flat sable or something similar so I don’t get too many brush strokes. If the color looks streaky (since some colors tend to be a little more transparent than others) I let it dry and then keep reapplying until it looks flat. A little acrylic gouache goes a long way and since the tubes are tiny and expensive just remember you don’t need a huge amount for a large area. I hope that helped!
