Anonymous asked: what kind of paper do u use omg
If I’m going to be painting on it I like to use really good printmaking paper like Rives BFK or Stonehenge so that it’s heavy enough to withstand the paint without warping. All my sketch stuff is just done on the paper provided by the sketchbook so nothing too fancy, although if I were to do a drawing as an actual original piece I’d try and use the nice paper too. It just looks and feels better.
malkerm asked: have you considered painting with a cucumber?
No i hate cucumbers but even if I did like them then I would eat them not paint with them. I like all these weird questions!
Anonymous asked: have you considered drawing your charecters with body hair?
Haha this question is random. I tend to view hair as an opportunity for pattern so it tends to be sparse and in a clump when its on bodies because i like the flesh to be a solid.
fern-001 asked: i just stumbled upon your blog i love your work what kind of pens do you use?
Thank you! For my sketchbook, I use microns and faber castells for line work. For broader areas I use copics and brush pens. Highlighters and gel pens are also a favorite. basically I use anything that has great color/ is waterproof.
tangled--spines asked: I just want to saw that your art is amazing and the first time I saw one of your drawings I couldn't look away I love it so much
Aw you’re very kind :)) Thank you so much!! <3
breigns-deactivated20140419 asked: i'm thinking about applying to pratt next year. how diverse was your portfolio?
I’m not sure what you mean by “diverse” but if you’re wondering whether or not I had a wide range of sculpture, painting, drawing, etc I did not. If I remember correctly I was really into realistically rendering machinery (like engines, etc) with pen and pencil so I had a bunch of that stuff and then I had one or two “fun” things that I did in pen and marker. I was obsessed with showing that I was technically skilled but now that I’m an old fart my best advice for making your portfolio is to go with your gut and put in things that you are proud of. Best of luck!!!!
derekabella asked: Hi Kristen! I've been following your stuff for a while, and I wanted to ask you thought about your experience at Pratt and the Illustration program there, since I'm going to school there in the Fall. Thanks for being so inspiring!
Hello! Your first year is gonna suck haha. But if you find the right professors once you start taking illustration classes (which happens sophomore year), you can learn so much. It took me until Junior year to actually start liking what I made so if you feel down about that, don’t sweat it. Pratt will kick your ass- prepare for all-nighters and brutally honest critiques. And if you decide to stick it out, really commit to trying to make something you’re proud of for every assignment even if you think the assignment is dumb or irrelevant. Just because it’s school doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to make something that looks fucking cool haha. HOPE THAT HELPED :))))
emlyyy asked: Hi! Just wanted to say I'm in loooove with all your stuff, it's insane!!
